Who am I?
I'm from Manchester but have lived across the UK and spent two years living in Mexico City. In a former life, I was a secondary school science teacher for a decade before leaving the profession and retraining. I achieved a Distinction from the University of Salford for my Master's in Broadcast Journalism along with studying for a L5 NCTJ Diploma in Journalism.
I was able to retrain thanks to the support of the NCTJ's Journalism Diversity Fund (The JDF). Below is an interview I did with them for the 2021/22 NCTJ Journalism careers guide.
I'm passionate about both news and sport and have had a varied career experience that lends itself to cover stories across a wide range of fields. In addition to my journalism qualifications, I hold a BSc in Psychology, an MSc in Sport & Performance Psychology and a PGCE teaching qualification in Combined Science.
I'm a father of two young children and spend my free time trying to stop our house from burning down!

Award Nominations
I've had the honour to have been recognised for my work in journalism so far and I am really appreciative of the support that I have had from colleagues and within the media industry.
The BBC Sounds Podcast Documentary Series, Out of Our League, which I made together with Mark Crossley was nominated for Best Audio at the British Sports Journalism Awards and fourth at the AIPS International Sports Press Association Awards in 2020.
I was nominated for the Journalism, Politics and History Award at the University of Salford 2021 Create Student Awards for my work during my Master's Studies and a revision podcast I made for studying the IPSO Editors' Code. The same podcast was also nominated at the 2021 NCTJ Awards.
In 2022 I was nominated for Sports Journalist of the Year at the Asian Media Awards.

Didn't you find out baby number two was coming, whilst you were on air?

Yes! I was reporting or BBC Radio Manchester at the time.
The story was featured on BBC Radio 2 with Zoe Ball and in the Daily Mirror. And finally... how do you say Rudravajhala?
